This tour is for the ture nature lover. It covers all of South Africa's highlights from Kruger National Park, following the east coast through Swaziland, Zululand, the Drakensberg, Gareden Route and ending in Cape Town. The accommodation for this trip will alternate between camping and lodges. When camping the tour will be done on a participation plan meaning you will be required to help with camp setup. Almost all the camping stops have resturants so meals will be your choice of doing a combined effort selfcater or eating out. Your guide will obviously be there to help where ever he can. DAY 1 : KRUGER NATIONAL PARK

The tour will depart from Johannesburg and will make it’s way out to the world-renowned Kruger National Park.This park offers a wildlife experience that ranks with the best in Africa and the world and is unrivalled in the diversity of its life forms. Ideally we would like to get an early start from Johannesburg, to allow us enough time to enjoy the drive, setup camp and even enjoy our first game drive, so we would like to aim for a 09:00 departure.

DAY 2: KRUGER NATIONAL PARK

This will be our first full day in the park and we will start with an early morning game drive, stopping at one of the many rest stops to cook breakfast before returning to the camp. The midday is spent in camp and you have time at leisure to swim, enjoy the views from the camp or just read a book. In the afternoon we continue exploring the vastness and diversity of Kruger Park with another game drive.

DAY 3: KRUGER NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast we leave the park and head back up the mountains and take in the panoramic route. Highlights will include the majestic views from Gods Window, Wonder View and Lisbon Falls Also a stroll through the small town of Graskop, which offers some unique shopping. A visit to Africa Silks, which produces its own goods from locally produced and farmed silk worms as well as the unique African Mopani worm. After lunch we return to Kruger in time for a sunset drive before returning to camp.

DAY 4: PONGOLA

Today we leave Kruger NP and travel down to the land of the Zulu, but first we need to travel through Swaziland. We enter South Africa again and arrive at Pongola Private Game Reserve, surrounded by bushveld savannah and the Lebombo Mountains. The afternoon will be at leisure so you can enjoy the comforts of the beautiful lodge. Time allowing you may wish to do an optional activity like enjoy a game cruise on Pongola dam (great to see animals as they come drink).

DAY 5 ST LUCIA

In the morning, before a great breakfast at Mvubu Lodge, we have the choice of either an early morning game drive or going Rhino tracking (join your ranger on a game walk and track these prehistoric beasts on foot). Then we continue our trip south to the small holiday town of St Lucia located in the St Lucia Wetland Park otherwise known as iSimangaliso Wetland Park. The iSimangaliso Wetland Park is the country’s first World Heritage Site which was awarded in 1999. iSimangaliso is like nothing you have ever seen in the world. Its 332,000 hectare area has 8 ecosystems, 3 major lakes, majority of the country’s swamp forests, coastal dunes that are over 25,000 years old, the country’s biggest estuarine system, and hundreds of bird and other animal and plant species. The park’s name, means “miracle and wonder”.

DAY 6: ST LUCIA

Today we have an early start as we head for the oldest game reserve in South Africa, The Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve. We will spend the better part of the day in the park exploring it as we do our game drive, we return to St Lucia after lunch and embark on a Hippo & Crocodile Estuary Cruise. This is a leisurely boat trip down the St Lucia Estuary to watch fish eagles, hippos, crocodiles and goliath herons against a backdrop of mangrove swamps.

DAY 7: ST LUCIA

St Lucia lies on The Elephant Coast of KwaZulu-Natal. Elephants, Rhino and Lion, Whales, Turtles and Marlin, Warm Indian Ocean, Pristine Beaches, Sub-Tropical Climate are some of the terms associated with this area… Today you have the option to book some of the activities below, or just enjoy the town and its wild beaches.

DAY 8: DURBAN

After breakfast we continue down the coast to Durban. Durban is the largest Indian population outside of India and is therefore a great place to try some of the world’s best Indian food. It is also the busiest harbours in South Africa. Tonight will be spent in a lovely guest house.

DAY 9: SANI PASS

After breakfast, take a scenic drive to the Southern Drakensberg, visiting some of the attractions along the way.

DAY 10: SANI PASS

Set off to conquer Sani Pass. The awe-inspiring Sani Pass climbs the face of the escarpment into the Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho. It is the getaway to the "Roof of Africa". Originally developed as a bridal path, the pass served as an important link between the Underberg district and the remote north-eastern Lesotho. The first vehicle negotiated the path in 1948. It is now used for the most part by 4x4 vehicles and is the highlight of the Southern Drakensberg. The tour reveals the history of the pass, geology, flora & fauna, and a unique experience with the Basotho people. Before returning to our camp lunch and a drink at the highest pub in Africa is a must.

DAY 11: UMTATA

Travel into the Eastern Cape (previously the Transkei homeland) and book into Green Park Lodge. This is an overnight stop.

DAY 12: MOUNTAIN ZEBRA NATIONAL PARK

We leave our lodge in Umtata after breakfast and make our way to Mountain Zebra National Park which will be our home for the next two nights. Invigorating crystal clear air, beautiful scenery, tranquil ambience and an abundance of wildlife offer you a special and personal African wilderness experience at Mountain Zebra National Park. Situated near Cradock in the malaria-free Eastern Cape, this national park was originally proclaimed in 1937 to save the dwindling Cape mountain zebra population. Now, at over 28 000ha, the park boasts a conservation success story, protecting over 700 zebra as well as wildlife such as endangered black rhino and cheetah. Time allowing we head off after setting up camp and enjoy a sunset drive.

DAY 13: MOUNTAIN ZEBRA NATIONAL PARK

In the early morning we head off with the park rangers to track Cheetah. This is done with the aid of a directional radio receiver which will pick up the unique frequency of the Cheetah’s radio collars. The Cheetah in the park have been collared to allow researchers to keep track on them and therefore to allow them more time in observing the cats. It involves starting off in a vehicle allowing us to get closer to the Cheetah’s location and then, if the circumstances allow, we get off and approach on foot. This gives you a chance to really appreciate this animal in its natural environment. These are not tame animals but to date there are no recordings of Cheetah ever killing a person.

In the afternoon we head out to explore the park some more or we can visit the town of Cradock which has become well known for its arts and crafts and many museums.

DAY 14: ADDO ELEPHANT NATIONAL PARK

Visit Addo Elephant National Park. Now the third largest national park in South Africa, Addo Elephant National Park has expanded to conserve a wide range of biodiversity, landscapes, fauna and flora. Addo covers about 180 000ha. The original elephant section of the park was proclaimed in 1931, when only eleven elephants remained in the area. Today this finely-tuned ecosystem is sanctuary to over 600 elephant, lion, buffalo, black rhino, spotted hyena, leopard, a variety of antelope and zebra species, as well as the unique Addo flightless dung beetle, found almost exclusively in Addo.Enjoy an afternoon game drive with your guide.

DAY 16: WILDERNESS

Today we make our way to the town of Wilderness where we will base ourselves for the next three nights. Wilderness is in the heart of the Garden Route and give us a great base to explore the area.

DAY 17: WILDERNESS

Today we visit the town of Knysna, a beautiful town built on the edge of the lagoon. You have the option of doing one of two tours:

FEATHERBED EXCURSION: Visit the Knysna Heads, rock formations flanking a deep but potentially treacherous channel through which the sea pours in to flood the wide lagoon at the mouth of the Knysna River. Take a ferry out to the Featherbed, a pristine piece of paradise situated on the Western Head of Knysna and is accessible by ferry only. This spectacular four-hour eco-experience includes a return ferry trip, nature drive in a 4x4 unimog and guided walk, ending with a sumptuous buffet lunch at the Food Forest Restaurant.

MILLWOOD GOLD MINE TOUR: The area where gold was mined briefly in the late 1800’s is the venue for a beautiful outing into the forest. Start with a gentle 3km walk along the river. Beautiful indigenous forest, ancient trees, huge tree ferns, arum lilies, mushrooms and fungi. Explore some of the old shafts dug by the miners en route. After arriving at a little waterfall and swimming hole, turn around and stroll back to the Jubilee Creek picnic site. Following a visit to Mother Holly's Mining museum follow another very short trail and visit the old mining area and creep into one or two old shafts to have a peek at the old machinery. Light refreshments served.

Afternoon at leisure to explore Knysna, the capital of the Garden Route.

DAY 18: WILDERNESS

Visit the Klein Karoo and Oudsthoorn, ostrich capital of the world. No trip to Oudsthoorn would be complete without a visit to an ostrich farm. Here you will have the opportunity to feed and touch the ostriches, stand on an ostrich egg, sit on an ostrich and even attempt to ride an ostrich!

In the afternoon visit the Cango Caves, sculptured by nature through ages.

DAY 19: CAPE TOWN

After breakfast, bid the Garden Route farewell and head off to Cape Town. On route to Cape Town we have the option of visiting some winelands, taking a very scenic road and stopping at verious farm stalls offering some of the capes culinary delights.

DAY 20: CAPE TOWN

Visit Table Mountain, the world famous landmark. Join the ranks of millions of visitors who have reached the summit and marvelled at the views from such lofty heights.

In the afternoon, head to the V&A Waterfront and board the ferry to Robben Island. Robben Island has been a penal colony for most of its 400 year history. Nelson Mandela spent 18 years on Robben Island and many of the leading members of South African political parties were incarcerated alongside him. In 1997 Robben Island was turned into a museum and declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Return to the V&A Waterfront. Situated in the heart of Cape Town's working harbour, the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront has become South Africa's most visited destination. Set against a backdrop of sea and mountain views, exciting shopping and entertainment venues are intermingled. This is an experience of how the Capetonians live, work, shop and play!

DAY 21: CAPE TOWN

One of the tour's highlights comes in the form of The Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. This reserve is home to Cape Point, the most south-westerly point of Africa. It is one of the highest sea cliffs in the world. The reserve is home to indigenous plant species, some of which occur nowhere else on earth. Also visit other attractions like Chapman’s Peak (sited as the most scenic marine drive in the world), Boulders Beach (home to a colony of vulnerable African Penguins) and the historical naval village of Simon’s Town.

DAY 22: END

We bid you farewell and drop you off at Cape Town airport, or a hotel/guesthouse of your choice.

This is a tour that offers part camping part lodge. The tour has been designed to allow for as many three night stops as possible, we have also tried our best to alternate the camping and lodge accommodation. The food is shown as “Combined effort self-catering” this doesn’t mean you have to self-catering and most of the places we will be visiting have restaurants. If you do choose to self-cater then your guide will be on hand to help and will ensure you have plenty of opportunities to get to shops to purchase supplies. We would recommend a blend of the two options.
